Chapter Six

Three days. It's been three agonizing days and Nori still won't talk about what happened. Hell, she's outright avoiding me now. I screwed the pooch royally on this one.

I give her space and decide to wait for as long as it takes for her to stop avoiding me. The air between us is electric with want and need as she quickly maneuvers to not be in shared space with me any longer than she has to.

Instead of spending time with me in the kitchen for breakfast in the mornings, like our normal routine had developed into, I get a plate of food that’s still wonderfully delicious but it’s on the stove or dinner with heating instructions. I miss her putting that plate there in front of me as we settle down to eat together. Instead, there’s usually a quick note with something like 'Errands' or 'Early work prep' scribbled in a delicate feminine hand.

I just want to make it up to her but she won’t stick around long enough for us to talk.

I know it's me and I can't crowd or rush her.

When most things frustrate me in life, I exercise. I’ve taken to exercising out my anger and frustration with this situation too. I hate not having any control or say so in the matter. My home gym rivals that of a commercial one with all the equipment I’ve amassed. My trainer is in heaven but I’m in hell as I fight ghosts and shadows of what could have been with Nori, what I might have done wrong and how I could have prevented it.

Today is no different. Running through warm up drills for a Muay Thai session with my trainer, welcome vibrations reverberate through my hand and up my arm as I make contact with the punching bag. The impact is reward for my angry soul. With each punch, kick and combination, I rue the moment I kissed her without permission, violating her body by grabbing and groping her. I make my trainer take me through a punishing and grueling session. Sweat trickles into my eyes as I attempt to pound out the stupidity I used in moving to soon with her. Exhaustion and physical soreness or pain will be my reward as I seek refuge from the thought of having hurt Nori.
